The Profession of a Harbour Master

Being a Harbour Master is a wonderful profession. Worldwide there are about 3,000 merchant ports and each of these ports has a harbour master, sometimes with staff personnel and deputies.
These true specialists and professionals take care of safety, environment, security and smooth shipping traffic in their ports. They may oversee huge numbers of vessels entering a port and in many cases come from the ranks of seafarers.
