History
The European Harbour Masters’ Committee is a regional committee within IHMA. The EHMC was brought into being at the 4th Congress of IHMA, in Bremen, May 2004. Since then it replaces the former EHMA.

Boundaries of the European region

The EHMC definition of Europe goes beyond that of the members states of the European Union and comprises the following countries:

Albania - Armenia - Azerbaijan - Austria - Belgium - Bellarus - Bosnia - Bulgaria - Croatia - Czech Republic - Cyprus - Denmark - Estonia - Finland - France - Georgia - Germany - Greece - Hungary - Iceland - Ireland - Italy - Latvia - Lithuania - Luxembourg - Macedonia - Malta - Moldavia - Netherlands - Norway - Poland - Portugal - Romania - Russia - Serbia - Slovenia - Slovakia - Spain - Sweden - Switzerland - Turkey - Ukraine - United Kingdom

Objectives

The EHMC strives to offer European Harbour Masters additional advantages related to their region, in addition to those benefits of IHMA membership;
» a focus on European issues
» European identity in the eyes of European institutions
» representation of the views of European Harbour Masters
» a European voice in the European institutions
» influence in European policies concerning ports and shipping transport
» dissemination of information
» seminars on professional topics in the years between the IHMA’s biennial Congresses
» networking opportunities
» discussions and exchange of information and best practice between European Harbour Masters
» monitoring the flow of information, directives and consultative papers that come from the European Commission
» contributing, as an expert group, to European research projects. In this respect, the EHMC is registered as a group of professional experts in the CONECCS database; the database for Consultation, the European Commission and Civil Society

As an active regional committee, EHMC strives to strengthen the Association.
